Wick Trimming Guide – Candle Wick Height Tool for Cotton & Wooden Wicks
A little less guesswork when trimming your wicks.
The Wick Trimming Guide gives you a repeatable height reference when trimming cotton or wooden candle wicks, helping make this finishing step a little easier from one candle to the next.
Slide the open slot around the wick, rest the guide on cool, solid wax and trim just above the surface of the guide. Lift it away using the rounded handle, ready for the next candle.
Why makers use it
- A consistent reference point for batch trimming
- Less measuring between candles
- Open slot for sliding around the wick without threading it through a hole
- Large engraved markings to identify each guide height
- Rounded handle for lifting the guide out
- Reusable across multiple candles and batches
Choosing your guide height
Available guide heights: 3.2 mm, 4.8 mm, 5 mm, 6 mm, 7 mm, 8 mm, 9 mm, 10 mm and 12 mm.
Choose the height that suits your wick supplier’s guidance and your tested candle-making setup.
The marked size is the thickness of the guide above the wax surface. The finished wick length also depends on your cutter’s blade thickness and cutting angle, so check the result with your chosen cutting tool before trimming a full batch.
Quick fit check – please read before ordering
- Guide diameter: 35 mm (3.5 cm). Your container opening and internal space must be wider than this, with enough room to use your cutter.
- Slot width: approximately 4.5 mm. Your wick must slide freely without being forced or bent. For wooden wicks, align the broad width along the length of the slot.
- Wax surface: the guide needs to rest flat on cool, fully set wax.
- Cutting tool: check that your cutter is suitable for the wick and can reach it freely above the guide.

How to use it
- Make sure the candle wax has cooled and set completely.
- Slide the guide around the wick and let the underside rest flat on the wax. Avoid pressing it into the surface.
- Using a suitable cutting tool, trim the wick close to the top of the guide without cutting into the plastic.
- Lift the guide away using the handle and remove all wick cuttings from the candle.
- Check the finished wick length against your candle’s instructions before lighting.
What is included
- 1 × Wick Trimming Guide in your selected height and colour.

Material and care
Designed and 3D printed to order in the UK using PLA.
Wipe clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Keep away from flames, hot wax, heat guns and other heat sources. Do not put it in a dishwasher. Always remove the guide before lighting the candle.
Fine layer lines are a normal part of 3D printing. Colours may vary slightly with lighting, screen settings and filament batches.
